Pricing Questions

What clients ask about our fees.

Transparent answers on how we scope and price engagements.

Why are tax return prices quoted as a starting point?

Because two returns that look similar can take very different amounts of work. A 1040 with a W-2 and a mortgage is straightforward; the same taxpayer with three rental properties, a K-1, and stock sales is not. Our starting prices reflect a clean, well-documented return. We review your prior-year return before quoting so the number we give you is the number you pay.

What does outsourced CFO cost in Connecticut?

Fractional CFO and Outsourced Finance engagements in Connecticut typically run from a few thousand dollars per month depending on scope, reporting cadence, and whether forecasting and lender reporting are included. We scope each engagement individually rather than posting a flat rate, because a $2M service business and a $15M manufacturer need very different things. Most clients step into it from our Controllership package as their needs grow.

Which accounting package is right for my business?

Basic Accounting ($400/mo and up) fits businesses that need clean, reconciled books and monthly statements. Controllership fits businesses that need someone owning the close, watching cash flow, and reporting on KPIs — typically $1M+ in revenue. Outsourced Finance fits businesses that need forecasting, modeling, and CFO-level strategy but are not ready to hire one full time. Most clients start at Basic and step up.

Is outsourcing cheaper than hiring an in-house accountant?

Usually, yes — and you get more for it. A full-time bookkeeper or staff accountant in Connecticut costs well over $70,000 a year once salary, payroll taxes, benefits, paid time off, software licenses, and training are counted — and that single hire still cannot do everything, still takes vacation, and still eventually leaves. Our Outsourced Finance package typically costs a fraction of a loaded in-house salary and gives you an entire group of specialists instead of one person: a bookkeeper, a controller, and CPA-level oversight, all on the same engagement.

The quality difference matters as much as the cost. Our staff are continuously trained on current best practices and on the technology that actually moves the needle — QuickBooks at the Advanced Certified ProAdvisor level, modern close and reporting tools, and automated workflows most single-employee back offices never implement. You get standardized processes, built-in review, and no key-person risk. When someone is out, your close still happens on time.

Is monthly accounting priced per month or per hour?

Monthly, as a flat fee. You should be able to budget for accounting without wondering what a phone call will cost. The fee is set based on transaction volume, number of accounts, and reporting requirements, and we revisit it if your business changes materially. Special projects such as cleanup or system migration are quoted separately.

Do you charge extra for tax planning?

Proactive planning is built into our Controllership and Outsourced Finance packages and into most business tax engagements. For tax-preparation-only clients, a dedicated planning session is a separate engagement. The distinction matters: preparation reports what already happened, while planning changes the outcome before year-end. If you only talk to your accountant in March, you have already missed most of the opportunity.

Can I switch packages later?

Yes, and most growing clients do. Moving from Basic Accounting to Controllership is a natural step as revenue and complexity increase, and there is no penalty for changing. We will usually be the ones to raise it when your reporting needs have outgrown your current package.
